Desarrollo del proyecto AR para Monster Energy

Monster Energy, a brand of energy drinks, was preparing the launch of its product Mango Loco in Chile and Argentina.

To boost the campaign, it was decided to create a funny AR filter for Facebook that will be at the center of a virtual contest.

Inspired by the Mexican culture, the filter should provide an instant transformation for up to two users. Both of them would become skulls with flattened noses, vivid face paint and one of them has an animated mustache.

Opening their mouth, a skeleton arm emerges holding a hyper-realistic can and shoots a fire-like drink at their mouths. Mexican music starts playing, and each appearance of the can is accompanied by the sound of the tab being pulled.

Collaborative project with the Inbrax Chile advertising agency.

Along with programmatic development, we applied four graphic styles to achieve the visual aesthetic of the campaign.

➀ HYPERREALISTIC: We modeled the 3D can of the product with the exact proportions, metallic texture, reflections, and dynamic position.

➁ CARTOON: We designed the skeleton arm inspired by a character from the campaign, flat and contoured to the naked eye, but with all the properties of 3D to hold the can. Also, we created a mustache, in one of the two masks, that turns 360° when we open our mouth.

➂ FACIAL PAINT: We applied a mask with 70% transparency to balance between the strength of the colors and the natural expression of the user.

➃ ANIMATED LIGHTS: We generated the drops of the drink that erupts from the can, with more brightness at the points of their greatest concentration.

Then we designed the filter icon and followed the approval process on Facebook.

Desarrollo del proyecto AR para Nivea

Nivea, a brand of beauty products, was preparing the launch of its new Rose Care line of products in Chile.

To support the campaign, it was decided to create a beautiful AR filter for Instagram that will be at the center of a virtual contest.

A selfie experience was sought that should reflect the charm of the line, its enveloping freshness, and delicate color, accompanied by a shower of beautiful rose petals.

Collaborative project with the Leo Burnett Chile advertising agency.

To carry out the project, we developed six well-optimized layers.

LAYER ➀ to communicate freshness: We applied a subtle pink layer with extra shine in light tones.

LAYER ➁ to accentuate the key visual: We gently drop 16 crisp petals with random size and subtle twist.

LAYER ➂ to make up users: We apply a mild skin softening (≈15%).

LAYER ➃ to hide objects from behind: We programmed transparent objects to overlay over the head and shoulders (better than segmentation for lower-mid-range phones).

LAYER ➄ to show the products: We drop 4 images of different products from the line, repeating the delicacy of the petals’ movements.

LAYER ➅ to create depth: We gently dropped 16 smaller unfocused petals and subtle twist.

Then we designed the filter icon and followed the approval process on Instagram.

“It seemed to me like a very good job, it was perfectly understood what the client wanted to achieve with this project”.

Desarrollo del proyecto AR para WWF

WWF, World Wide Fund for Nature, was preparing the launch of its new Footprints of Extinction initiative in Chile.

For the purposes of the campaign, it was decided to create three AR filters based on Google’s WebAR technology that would “bring back to life” extinct animals: the dodo, the great auk and the clouded leopard.

This interactive, educational, trustworthy and family-friendly experience was thought for the back camera, in order to raise awareness and encourage the user to donate for the conservation of endangered species.

Collaborative project with the Inbrax Chile agency.

For an experience both correct from a scientific viewpoint and suitable for any technical equipment, we went through the following stages for each animal:

— Sources research and conversation with an expert,

— 3D modeling of organic shapes with highly optimized mesh,

— Natural texturing and shading for greater volume,

— Looped body parts animation for infinite running,

— Validation of the result with the expert and corrections,

— Programming for the WebAR format,

— File size optimization to reduce loading times,

— Testing and implementation on the project page.

Commercial Projects in Virtual Reality

Desarrollo del proyecto VR para La Feria

La Feria, a Chilean electronic music club, organized the 2020 version of its annual On Tour festival and the 2021 New Year’s party.

To hold the event during the pandemic, it was decided to create a uniquely designed virtual world on the Mozilla Hubs social platform, along with four other brands as sponsors.

Collaborative project with the La Feria club and Perfo studio.

◉ We created a complex VR world in a brutalist cosmic style about 600 meters long. It had multiple platforms and catwalks, the general stage, four brand zones, two bars to order drinks, and numerous multimedia integrations.

◉ We configured the customizable Mozilla Hubs Cloud service and the Amazon Web Services server. Also, we trained responsible people on its use and help with the selection of the video streaming provider.

◉ We optimized the total weight of the supplied 3D project, reducing it 140 times without loss of shape or visual quality. This allowed the world to meet the Mozilla Hubs requirements and run not only on computers but also on VR headsets and a wide range of phones.

◉ We implemented realistic simulated lighting, a 360 sky sphere, an animated logo in the central square, an area with the lineup, and the DJ booth. Also, we incorporated special effects, graphics, music, streaming, hosted videos, LED screens, and e-commerce links.

◉ We designed 7 thematic avatars in GIF format, the onboarding room, and an animated carpet with greetings in 13 languages.

◉ We proposed an alternative version of the virtual world and reconfigured the previous version for the New Year’s event.

Desarrollo del proyecto VR para FONDAFONDA

Chile’s Independence Day in 2020 was faced with the cancellation of popular live events.

This is how the pandemic inspired us to establish FONDAFONDA, our own Disneyland with ‘earthquakes’ (a local drink), and meat brochettes, using the Mozilla Hubs virtual platform.

We wanted the event to be 100% free and available from anywhere in the world from a computer, phone, or VR headset. Besides, it had to be open 24/7 for a week and then become the first virtual Museum of Chilean culture.

In 8,500 virtual sqm. we recreated a typical Chilean space:

★ Museum of Chilenidad in a traditional two-wing house, with four thematic panels by our own curatorship (on the origin of the date, the history of the inns, the traditional games, and the national dance).

★ Virtual food court with stands linked to each one of the 25 e-commerce volunteer brands associated with the event, stylized for the environment.

★ Life-size rodeo with two panels on the Chilean rodeo.

★ Decorated pergola with videos of the cueca (national dance), provided by folk groups.

★ Music stage with traditional Chilean music and giant 3D figures.

★ Traditional playground.

★ 5 barbecue spots as the place for meeting and conversation.

★ 12 traditional avatar characters stylized for the event.

★ Voice and live chat.

We created an original logo and made a landing on a particular domain.

We resorted to free promotion on social networks and through cultural and diplomatic organizations.

During the week, the development garnered over 1,000 unique views and received very warm reactions even from the Mozilla Hubs community.

The project was supported by the capital headquarters of the government organization ProChile and several Chilean embassies abroad.
